Reasons grown-ups come back

Form BW-4

The first filing takes thirty seconds. These keep paying off all year.

Elf Field Operations

Every elf night, planned

Field Operations plans every night from arrival to Christmas Eve, each with the elf’s note for the morning. Tell the office what’s on hand, the minutes to spare and the mess allowed, and tonight’s mission is planned around all three.

The Kindness Ledger

A ledger that remembers

One case file per child: siblings, pets, favourite things and a running log of kind deeds and brave moments. Every department reads from it, so the next receipt, letter or certificate already knows that Leo is the little brother and Biscuit is the dog. Kept on this device only.

The Reading Room

Bedtime stories from the same world

30 gentle stories for ages 4 to 7: the junior fairy carrying tonight’s tooth to the Enamel Castle, the workshop the day before the elf arrives, the Lost Sock Department. Each has a 3-minute version for tired nights, little cues for doing the voices, and favourites are kept word for word, so “that one again” is always the same story.

Pip's First Solo Run · 3 min short version

Pip was the smallest courier at No. 1 Enamel Way, and tonight was her very first solo run. The Tooth Fairy handed her a velvet pouch and a shiny coin. "Fly slow," she said. "Land soft. And keep the pouch close to your heart."

DoGive Pip a tiny, squeaky voice that sounds very important.

Filing, in triplicate

Form BW-3

Three steps, thirty seconds, and the paperwork arrives before the kettle boils.

The Bureau’s filing desk: a Halloween Candy Tax Assessment for Maya lies on the desk, stamped Approved, between the In and Filed trays.

    1/3

    Step 1: Choose a form

25 official documents across 8 departments — receipts, letters, certificates and reports for every tooth, holiday and brave deed.

  2. Canary copy · for the department

    Step 2: Supply the particulars

A first name and a detail or two. The Bureau supplies the officialese. Personalised filings, drafted by its senior clerks around a real win from the Kindness Ledger, open soon.

  3. Pink copy · for the pillow

    3/3

    Step 3: Stamp, seal, deliver

One tidy page, stamped and signed. Deliver by the usual magical channels: under the pillow, beside the elf, or on top of the candy pile.

Scan to verify authenticity.

Every document carries a verification code. Point a phone at it and the Bureau confirms the case on file: the issuing department, the date, and the name of its recipient. Sceptical siblings are welcome to check.

  • Any phone camera will doNothing to install. The code opens the Bureau's verification page for that exact case.
  • Written for small readersA big seal, the department, the date and the recipient's first name. No prices, no adverts — just the facts of the case.
  • Sealed, not storedThe case details are sealed inside the code itself, so nothing about your child is kept on file at the Bureau.

Questions from grown-ups

The Bureau takes paperwork seriously, and grown-ups’ questions even more so.

Still have a question?

The Liaison Desk is glad to help with anything not covered here.

Write to the Bureau
Received
Is the Bureau free to use?

Yes. Standard Clearance is free for every grown-up: unlimited classic documents from all eight departments. Bureau-personalised documents (2 a month at this level) open soon, and the elf's 24-night field plan with a note for every morning. The Holiday Season Pass ($9.99 for 120 days) and Annual Magic Clearance ($29 for a year) add unlimited personalisation (opening soon), premium forms, extra paper styles and the elf planner's extras: swapping or shuffling nights, and missions planned around what's on hand. Both are one-time payments with no subscription and no auto-renewal.

Do I need an account?

No. There are no accounts and no passwords. If you buy a pass you'll receive an order code; use it with your email address on the Restore Clearance page to unlock the pass on another device.

Restore clearance

What happens when someone scans the QR code?

It opens the Bureau's verification page, written for small readers: a big official seal, the case number, the issuing department, the date and the recipient's first name. There are no prices or adverts on it. Pass holders can leave the code off any document.

What do you keep about my child?

As little as possible. The Bureau is for grown-ups and has no child accounts. The Kindness Ledger lives only in your own browser. The particulars you supply are used to draft the document and are not kept on file at the Bureau. The one exception is a Mailroom letter, whose contents and address travel with your order so the Mailroom can send it. The privacy notice names every service that helps along the way.

Read the privacy notice

What's the difference between classic and personalised documents?

Classic documents use the Bureau's standard wording, with several versions of every form and your particulars slotted in. They are free and unlimited. Personalised filings are drafted by the Bureau's senior clerks around the details you supply, such as a favourite toy or a recent kindness, and checked against the Bureau's rules for kind, age-appropriate language. You read every word before it is issued. The senior clerks open for personalised filings soon; classic documents are available now.

How the Bureau drafts documents

What size is the paperwork?

Every document is issued on a single page of US Letter or A4, and looks just as official in black and white as in full colour. Receipts are issued two to a page.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. If a pass isn't right for your family, ask within 14 days of purchase for a full refund.

Refund policy

Is the Bureau a real government office?

Only in the magical sense. The Bureau of Whimsy is not affiliated with any government, tax authority or official agency anywhere, and the Parental Revenue Service collects nothing but the occasional fun-size chocolate bar.

The night window is open.

Whatever happened after bedtime, there’s a form for it. Classic documents are free, and ready in about thirty seconds.
